Mission and philosophy

The Institut Constant de Rebecque is an independent institute of liberal thought and prescriptive research, incorporated in Lausanne according to Articles 60 and following of the Swiss Civil Code. Through a network of thinkers, researchers and young scholars, it promotes in Switzerland a climate of opinion favorable to individual growth, private initiative and free enterprise.

The Institut Constant de Rebecque believes in the values of a free and prosperous civil society and in the Swiss culture of individual responsibility, private property and free trade in an open and diverse environment. The Institut serves as a competitive agency of diffusion and transmission of ideas between science, politics, media and the economy. It transmits knowledge, facilitates its free exchange and contributes to the emergence of a liberal elite in a pluralistic civil society. The Institut is an entirely non-profit organization.

Through its activities, the Institut Constant de Rebecque intends to:

  • improve Switzerland's competitiveness by promoting a climate of opinion favourable to human creativity;
  • encourage in the public debate better consciousness of liberty's moral value and its utilitarian implications;
  • promote property by reducing government's unsustainable weight in favour of a diverse civil society;
  • support the free functioning of markets, deregulation, privatizations and liberalizations;
  • back students, scholars and young researchers who work to sustain the idea of a free society;
  • explain that voluntary relations between people surpass government's arbitrary and coercive nature;
  • show that no contradiction exists between economic logic and social well-being in a free and open economy.
