Research. The Institut supports the activity of intellectuals and scholars working in the liberal tradition. It explores fields such as private autonomy, property, institutional competition, privacy, and free trade.

Publications. The Institut disseminates its work among opinion leaders in civil society and politics in Switzerland and abroad, and among a larger audience through its web site, notes and reports. The Institut also promotes the distribution of articles and reference works in the liberal tradition.

Expert reports. On demand the Institut carries out studies and reports in its fields of expertise. It supplies its own competencies and identifies experts, constitutes working groups and conceptualizes the work program. In general such reports are confidential.

Conferences. In cooperation with other institutions, the Institut organizes public conferences and private seminars to facilitate the exchange of ideas and advance the intellectual debate. It also sponsors student participation at international academic conferences on a competitive basis.

Comment and analysis. The Institut broadens the public debate on important current affairs by making its perspective accessible to a wide audience through articles, editorials, interviews and other interventions in the media.

Reading circles. The Institut organizes reading circles on several university campuses designed to discuss classical and contemporary ideas and authors in the liberal tradition.

Services. On demand the Institut assists in researching and preparing texts and speeches for entities or personalities. Senior members of the Institut also serve as speakers in public debates or private events on topics addressed by the Institut.

Operational principles

Throughout all its activities, the Institut Constant de Rebecque consistently applies seven operational principles:

  • the uninterrupted quest for excellence by preserving absolute intellectual independence towards special interest groups, lobbies, government or political groups and parties;
  • the supply of an environment conducive to the reflective and scientific creativity of students and scholars bound to the freedom philosophy;
  • the stimulation of contacts among Swiss researchers and the international community active in the same fields;
  • the coordination of projects exceeding the possibilities of one person and the extension of research towards new directions;
  • the support of other liberal personal or organized initiatives through direct or indirect support of their work;
  • the promotion of intellectual commitment in the public debate, also in cooperation with other institutions;
  • productive work in a spirit of intellectual, methodological and personal integrity, tolerance and openness.
